Test

Left endoscopic stapedoplasty

A case of a 47-year-old female presenting with progressive bilateral hearing loss, without other major symptoms. Otoscopy was normal bilaterally. The audiogram shows a bilateral conductive hearing loss (see gallery), symmetrical. The absence of stapedial reflex suggest a diagnosis of otosclerosis. A CT scan of the temporal bone was performed, showing normal anatomy of the ossicular chain, with images suggesting otospongiosis. The patient was treated endoscopically with left stapedoplasty, with good post-operative gap closure.

Test

Left revision stapedoplasty

A case of a 33-year-old affected by bilateral otosclerosis, who underwent a left stapedoplasty in 2016, in another Clinic. After the surgery the patient did not feel improvement in hearing loss on the left side. The audiometric exam did not show a post-operative gap closure, so she was scheduled for left revision surgery. The audiogram shows a bilateral conductive hearing loss (see gallery), symmetrical, normal tympanogram (type A) and acoustic reflex thresholds can not be determined, bilaterally. Otoscopy was normal bilaterally. A HRCT scan of the temporal bone was performed, showing images suggesting otospongiosis and initial cochlear otosclerosis. The patient was treated endoscopically with left revision stapedoplasty, with good post-operative gap closure.
